VARSITY FOOTBALL
Where did we go wrong? When did things change? How does this affect the kids today? You will hear me say, “Who brought the cookies and drinks for after the game?” and “Let’s make sure everyone gets a trophy!” The word fair and equal in sport has watered down youth sports. What happened to the day you earned the starting spot or playing time? Kids today want everything instantly, success, playing time or an award. Truly working for something has become the last thought in the process.
The Trojan Football Program will begin to instill in each player that success comes with hard work. This year we will focus on “BELIEVE IN THE PROCESS”. Paying a price is something you do in life, and sports mirrors life. This process will honor God.
Fall Sports Wrap Up: Varsity Football
Our Trojan Varsity Football Team showed a tremendous amount of heart and resiliency throughout the 2012 season. Led by Head Coach Brad Kimberlin, we defeated Rossville Christian Academy and Davidson Christian Academy in back to back weeks on the road to open the season. The Trojans continued to improve throughout the season, gaining more and more confidence and consistency every day in practice and during games on Friday nights. We picked up another win against Bishop Byrne on Homecoming. The win would come with a price however, as the Trojans lost Senior Matt Stillions to a season-ending knee injury. Stillions continued to be a leader and an outstanding example for the rest of his teammates. Despite his unfortunate circumstances, Matt always made his presence felt during practices and on the sidelines for the rest of the season.
The Trojans entered Senior Night with a highly anticipated match up against our conference rivals from St. Georges. Nine seniors were honored for the commitment and hard work they put forth during their time as part of our football program. Our seniors and the rest of the Trojans gave a great effort throughout the entire game, thrilling our fans, and making plays the entire night. Although we came up just short on the scoreboard, we knew that we had built up some amazing momentum heading toward the end of the regular season. We would finish the regular season with a win against the Crusaders of FACS the next week, and head into the playoffs with a first round match up against Donelson Christian Academy.
We traveled to Nashville for our playoff match up against the Wildcats of Donelson Christian Academy. It was an offensive slugfest throughout the night, having its highs and lows for both teams. In the end we came up just short, being on the wrong side of a tough 28-25 loss. After the game, a physically and emotionally spent group of coaches and players cried, hugged, and thanked each other for Believing in the Process throughout the entire year. We all knew that we had been a part of something that we could all be proud of at the end of the 2012 campaign. We look forward to building on this very solid foundation, and continuing to improve as we begin a new journey next season.
Believe in the Process…Go Trojans!!!
JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL
Junior High Football Ends Season in Championship Game with Heads Held High
A resilient Trojan Junior High Football Team ended their season on a positive note Thursday Night against St. Georges. Although we lost the game on the scoreboard, our Trojans did not disappoint, giving every ounce of energy they had in a close 14 to 6 loss to the Gryphons in the championship game. It was a physical, hard-hitting football game that had it highs and lows on both sides of the ball for both teams. Physically and emotionally exhausted at the end of the game, our players and coaches vowed to allow this experience to make them stronger as a unit, and to keep building on this solid foundation as we move forward into next season. Congratulations to our Trojans for having another outstanding year on the grid iron!!
5th/6th/7th FOOTBALL
Numbers have never been a problem at the Elementary level and this year those same numbers are moving up in the 7th grade. The 5th and 6th grade has always been a great place for young men to begin learning the game of football. Coach Ken Ehrett has been a mainstay in our 5th/6th grade football program.
Just as the Jr. High will now fall under the Varsity program, so will the 5th/6th team, with both programs now under the direction of the varsity coaches. With this change, plus talent at every position for the 5th/6th and 7th grade, the future looks very bright! One major change this year will be the addition of a 7th grade schedule.
The 5th/6th season will begin on Thursday, August 16th and on Saturday, August 18th for the 7th grade. Make plans to come out and support our Trojans!!
2012 IMPROVEMENTS ALL AROUND
2012 has taken on three major upgrades. First change was the addition of a new press box. The press box will have A/C and heat which will make it a lot more comfortable for the PA and clock operator in the box during the game. A big need has been filled with the addition of new lights. We will now meet the TSSAA requirements for lighting our football field and track. The 3rd addition will be play clocks. This will help us in the area of controlling the game on Friday nights. Look for more changes to come in the future.
