After the SBEC Varsity Boys and Girls Track Team finished in 2nd place at the TSSAA Division II A State Track Championship on May 5, top individual finishers qualified for the Overall State Track Meet in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Sophomore Cornelia Thomas finished in 5th place for the state discus throw and in 8th place for the shot put. The 4 x 100 m relay team of Senior Josh Kimberlin and a trio of sophomores Grant Kimberlin, Samuel Kail, and Cory Lee qualified for the state finals where they finished in 8th place. Josh Kimberlin finished in 9th place in the state Decathlon finals with 5,522 points, 4th place in the 200 m state finals, and 5th place in the 100 m dash.
In addition to the Track team, the SBEC Varsity Boys Tennis Team also qualified for State competition. After beating St. George’s Independent School in the TSSAA Division II A Regional Tournament, the Trojans fell to the University School of Nashville in the quarterfinal round. By finishing as the runner up at the Regional Tournament, junior Alex Gray qualified for state individual play and beat Justin Fowler from Knoxville Webb in the quarter-final round. Although he lost a heart breaker to the number 1 seed from University School of Nashville in the State Semi-final round, Gray finished among the top individual tennis players in the state.
